Come to our second AGM on the 2nd of July. We set up this group parent-let pure community action. Now we can show what we have achieved since our formal establishment and we do it with a kick, we have a guest lecture by two amazing women Hafiza Patel & Yashmin Harun, who will speak about Girls in Sports:

Talk on women and girls in sports at our 2nd AGM at Coram’s Fields on 2nd of July 17.00, at Coram’s Fields.

Yashmin Harun and Hafiza Patel, who set up MSA Muslimah Sports Association, in order to increase female participation sports and in particular of Muslim girls and women.
Yashmin Harun is Founder and Chair of MSA and has been in International Banking for nearly 20 years. This experience has bought key skills such as excellent time management, relationship building and project management skills. As well as planning and strategy implementation skills to MSA.
Yashmin has always had a passion for sports and was very involved throughout her school life. She was captain of the Athletics, Hockey, Rounders, Netball and Football Teams. Yashmin first established basketball to provide an outlet for like-minded women. She wanted to create an place where women were free to participate in sports without compromising their religious or cultural beliefs.
Yashmin’s success has resulted in establishing over 8 weekly activities for Muslim and BAME females, including badminton, Karate and football.
She was recently awarded The Muslim News Award for Excellence in Sports in 2017 and nominated for a Women Sports Trust award.
Yashmin works closely with London Sports, The FA, Bangladesh Football Association UK, Mind Charity and Badminton England to bring more opportunities for Muslim and BAME women. In the very short time MSA has been established, Yashmin has been key in promoting Muslim women to get active and success has seen increasingly high numbers of participants.
Hafiza Patel is the Treasurer for MSA. She has been a member of the board since its incorporation. As a qualified accountant working at a senior level in the university sector, she brings to MSA a wealth of experience around funding, pricing, and risk management.
Since a very young age she has always been involved in some sort of sports activity. Her involvement in MSA at a voluntary level was triggered by her exposure to students at work. At work she came across girls who had not participated in sports for a number of years. These girls wore hijabs, in some cases covered fully so finding a facility where they could take part was very restricted as they need total privacy to participate. Her love of sports, knowing the benefits it could provide to the girls physically and more importantly mentally inspired her to help set up MSA. Her dedication to the facility was made stronger when she saw first-hand the impact it had on the lives of girls and at a personal level saw how sports helped her sister who was recovering from cancer.
Coram’s Fields User Group was set up in 2016 by parents to represent the views and interests of park users in the decision-making process relating to Coram’s Fields. It enables the park’s community of users – families, children, young people, visitors and neighbours – to work in partnership with trustees, managers and staff of Coram’s Fields to achieve the betterment of this special place.
